He was born on the 2nd of November 1905 in Warsaw, died on the 30th of August 1973. A famous Polish chess activist. National master for chess composition (1955), International Judge in chess composition (1956). He debuted in 1933. He published app. 300 of chess problems. In tourneys he received 21 prizes (7 first ones). Six of his problems were published in the FIDE Albums (6 points). A gold medalist in the Polish championship in chess composition in the section of threemovers (1945–54, 1955–56). In 1960-71, he edited the problems column in the “Szachy” monthly. An author of many chess books.

Grzankowski Wacław

He was born on the 21st of March 1910, died on the 26th of September 1991. National master for chess composition (2013). In chess composition he made his debut in 1932. He was active until 1956. After 30-year break he returned to chess composition, winning the prestigious competition in The Problemist magazine (see the problem below). He published about 50 chess problems. In tourneys he gained 20 distinctions: in that 11 prizes (7 first ones). Three of his problems were published in the FIDE Albums (3 points).

His first problem was issued in 1956. In total he published more than 160 chess problems. In tourneys he received 100 distinctions, 25 prizes (8 first ones) and 36 honourable mentions. Five of his problems were published in the FIDE Albums (3 points). Two-time medalist of the World Chess Composition Tournament (1984-1988 – silver, 1989-1992 – bronze).

He was born on the 30th of January 1939, died on the 14th of December 2011 in Kalisz. National master for chess composition (1986). As a problemist he made his debut in 1957 in „Gazeta Wieluńska”. In total he published app. 190 of chess problems and studies. In tourneys he gained 135 distinctions, 30 prizes (9 first ones). One his twomover was published in the FIDE Album (1 point). A silver medalist of the third World Chess Composition Tournament (1984-88).

A candidate master for chess composition (2013). He made his debut in this field in 1951. He published approximately 50 chess compositions: studies and twomovers. In composing tourneys he gained 6 prizes (1 first one) and 7 honourable mentions.

A long-time researcher at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. National master for chess composition (1963). His first problem was issued in 1951. He published roughly 90 of chess problems, receiving 33 prizes (13 first ones) and 18 honourable mentions. Nine of his problems were reproducted in the FIDE Albums (9 points).

Emeritus Professor of Mathematics, University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He started composing in 1955 and since then has published roughly 90 chess compositions, mainly studies. In tourneys he has received 5 prizes (3 first ones) and 14 honourable mentions. Two of his studies were included in FIDE Albums (3,33 points). Known also under Vatslav Gebelt name. He was born on the 10th of December 1913 roku in the village Łabno near Grodno. Died on the 16th of October 1999 in Lida (Belarus). A graduate of classical philology at the University of Warsaw (1937). Master of Sport of the USSR in Chess Composition (1957), International Master for chess compositions (1977) and International Judge of Chess Compositions (1959). He made his debut in chess composition in 1933. In total he published about 600 chess problems, gaining 150 prizes (53 first ones). More than 40 of his problems were published in the FIDE Albums (38,5 points). A winner of the fifth USSR Championship in the section of twomovers (1959). A gold medalist of the first World Chess Composition Tournament (1975).
